"Oblomova" I. A. Goncharov wrote for 12 years. Concluding the work on the novel, the writer said: "I wrote my life and what was growing to it." For the first time, the work was published in 1859 in the magazine "Domestic Notes". Immediately after the publication, the Russian “Journal of the Ministry of Education "wrote:" ... The word "Oblomovshchina" became a household for living in its "wide faces" ... "Oblomovism" as a phenomenon, as a characteristic of the existence and image of being, was so vividly described by the author that does not leave readers indifferent to this day.
Critic Dmitry Pisarev noted that a rare romance discovered such an analysis in his author, such a complete and subtle knowledge of human nature in general and the female especially ... ". After the success of Oblomov, Goncharov resigned from public service and completely devoted himself to literature. By the end of the 1870s, the novel could not be found in bookstores, all copies were sold out.
