Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko lived for 47 years. Of these, he was a serf, 10 years as a soldier, and only 13 years remained for the years of freedom and creativity. But he managed a lot and forever remained a great poet and a wonderful artist. The poetry of Taras Grigoryevich, imbued with love for his homeland, is distinguished by proximity to folk art, deep lyricism, simplicity and poetic grace of expression. Among the almost 400 works of that period, watercolor landscapes are allocated during the expedition of the geographer A. I. Butakov. Shevchenko loved nature and was an excellent landscape painter.
One of his best paintings by the landscape direction is the Fire in the Steppe, written in 1848, during the steppe transition from Orsk to the Aral Sea, when Shevchenko became an eyewitness to the amazing, impressive spectacle - a giant flame from the dry grass set by Kazakhs. Shevchenko, recognizing himself as deeply national, created his works not only in Ukrainian, but also in Russian. He kept his diary on it, wrote letters, novels, as well as some poems. In these works, he did not separate himself from the Russian national literary tradition, which was invariably for him
