Alexander Blok, an outstanding representative of Russian symbolism, brought to literature the simultaneousness of power and sadness, anger and melancholy, delicate lyrics and passionate rage. His “poems about the beautiful lady” are combined from the entire earthly with the fiery-revolutionary lines of the poem "Twelve". “He acted on readers as a moon on the moon,” wrote Korney Chukovsky. This collection includes selected works from all the main poetic cycles of the Bloc, as well as the poem "Retribution" and "Twelve". The collection is opened by an article by Chukovsky, which is a high example of journalism.
