The monograph is devoted to the study of the deep and versatile impact of the First World War on the life of Russian Karelia in 1914-1918. and the problems of socio-economic development of the region at a new round of modernization of Russian society at the beginning of the 20th century. Based on the published documentary sources and archival materials, many of which were first introduced into the research turnover, the influence of the military factor on the life of the population of Karelia was analyzed, the increased geostrategic significance of the Olonets province and Kemsky district of the Arkhangelsk province is shown.
