The book is dedicated to the events of the Civil War, which unfolded in the territory of the Russian Karelia. In 1918-1922, the Karelian regions were in the focus of the confrontations of various military and political forces: here the detachments of the Red Army and the White Northern Government, divisions of the Entente and the Red Finns, the Karelian detachment and the Finnish volunteer units fought here. Considerable attention is paid to the role of the young Finnish state and a group of Finnish activists who inspired three volunteer campaigns in Karelia. In the center of the monograph is the Karelian peasantry. Using the materials of the Finnish archives unknown to the Russian reader, the authors analyze the political psychology of the Karelian peasant, who ended up in the center of fierce military confrontation, and show the most striking manifestations of peasant strategies.
For the first time, the reader gets the opportunity to get acquainted with the reports and memories of Finnish volunteers, interviews and memories of the Karelian peasants - participants in the events - and Finnish politicians, etc
