In the famous autobiographical novel “How Steel was tempered” by the writer-Bright with the unusually tragic fate of Nikolai Alekseevich Ostrovsky (1904-1936), the events of the Civil War era, the years of the restoration of the national economy and socialist construction. In the image of the protagonist - Pavel Korchagin - the author showed excellent human qualities: devotion to deed, determination, love of the homeland, persistence of character, courage, moral purity and, most importantly, unlimited faith in a bright future, which is worth fighting. The novel immediately after the publication gained immense popularity and became the most published work of Soviet literature
