The most important in the work of Bunin both in his youth and in the declining of years remained the theme of love. He described it in all states, knew how to find even where it barely squeamish and never comes true, and where it languishes unrecognizable or does not reveal its past, subject to destructive time. All this was seized by a writer in new ones that had not yet given details and became fresh, today for any time. This peculiar neorealism of Bunin unexpectedly approaches Russian symbolism, which he so fiercely rejected before, and in the declining of years adopted the concept of death long -formed by the Symbolists as liberation.
