The novel "Golden Calf" (1931) is the second part of the famous dilogy. Ilya Ilf (1897-1937) and Evgeny Petrov (1902-1942), at the request of the public, the Ostap Bender was resurrected after his tragic death in the final of "twelve chairs". But a charming and witty adventurer appears in a "golden calf" noticeably changing: he wiser, sad, gained life experience. Today, when we know how easily the novel has withstood the test of time, it seems especially not far and primitive to its assessment by contemporaries of the literature. "The idea of money that does not have moral value" (Evgeny Petrov) many of them seemed insufficiently revealed. The “dangerous sympathy” of the authors Ostap was noted by Anatoly Lunacharsky, the "Sukin son" was called Bender Alexander Fadeev. Ostap himself reacted to his next defeat ironically and philosophical: "Count Monte Cristo did not come out of me. We"ll have to retrained in managers. " But even though he stayed, readers were glad. And he remained himself - alive, having a hero, one of the most cited characters of Russian literature. Today he is not just a literary hero - he is part of our speech.
