Vyacheslav Shishkova’s “gloomy river” is a saga about three generations of the merchant family of the Thunder, as well as the first large-scale canvas about the life of Siberia gold miners at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.
The novel relies on the real evidence and personal experience of the author himself, who worked for twenty years in Siberia as an engineer-research. This work is reliably shown the life and moods of that time, with love, the harsh beauty and violent temper of the Siberian taiga are conveyed. The main character Prokhor Gromov faces the problem of moral choice: he makes a decision and enters into the fight against fate.
