A two-volume man of selected works (“Favorites: Funny” and “Favorites: Serious”), published on the 160th birthday of the great writer, clearly represents both sides of the Chekhov talent, helping the reader create a harmonious impression of Anton Pavlovich’s “literary face”. The “Favorites: Funny” includes Chekhov"s works of 1880-1887. Here is the so -called Chekhov humorism, the texts that he signed “a man without a spleen”, “brother of his brother”, but most often “Antosha Czechont”. Chekhov lived in an extremely funny time. And in the fact that he wrote funny stories, there is nothing surprising. Everyone was homerically funny: students, liberals, ministers, zemstvo figures, innocent girls, prostitutes, summer residents, teachers, priests, intellectuals, peasants, judges, attackers ... This happens during the years of great social despair and a large -scale crash of hopes.
