The finest literary art of the Russian writer and poet Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin (1855–1888) was created on the verge of the 20th century. Almost every of his stories is, as it were, a particle of his autobiography, part of his thoughts and experiences, because they are so vividly capturing the reader with their life truth and so excite. In his military stories, Garshin clearly describes the horror and depth of the tragedy of war, he makes it clear that war is a general disaster, common grief and that all people are responsible for the blood that spils on the battlefield. The work of Garshin, a writer who possessed a heightened sense of justice, left an indelible bright mark in our literature
