"Farewell to Matera" is one of the most piercing works of "rustic prose" Valentina Rasputin. The story of the tragic fate of the Siberian village, which ended up at the junction of two eras: the past and the present, reminds the modern reader of the value of the memory of his roots, the history of the native land and its traditions. The new time determines the fate of the matures: its inhabitants are relocated to the neighboring village, burning the huts, and the village itself should be flooded. But not everyone can adapt to another life, and the Mateinsky old people - the keepers of centuries -old memory - are doomed to a bitter fate.
The strict and capacious illustrations of Elizabeth Bukhalova echo the serious and sad mood of the story, creating the panorama of the village, which remains the last summer
