Prince K., the elderly Casanova, arrives in the provincial city of Mordasov and produces a splash in local society, after which one of the provincial ladies, a cunning and prudent woman, decides at all costs to marry the prince of her daughter, young beauty Zina. This is the plot of the work “Dyadyushkin Sleep”, which the Russian writer-classic Fedor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky published in 1859.
The theme of unequal marriages at that time was very relevant, but the author did not receive the expected response from critics and readers. The work was truly appreciated many years later, when several performances in Moscow theaters were staged at it at once, and two adaptations were released on the screens.
