The problem of the emancipation of a woman began to be recognized by the public opinion of Russia from about the middle of the 19th century. A wide discussion unfolded around this, where new ideas and trends intertwined with prejudices. In the field of elegant literature, along with the names known, this topic was also affected by many less famous writers, now forgotten, but sometimes giving very curious options for interpretation of this issue. Among them I would like to highlight the name of Lidia Ivanovna Veselitskaya, who wrote under the pseudonym V. Mikulich. The most famous work of the writer became stories about the unit. This is a trilogy, consisting of the novels "Drinking Evality" (1883), "Party on the waters" (1891) and "Popular Poisoned" (1893).
The second part of the trilogy brought the admiration of Leo Tolstoy and Nikolai Leskov, who found that "The story ... is fresh, alive and curious ... The manner of scripture is extremely skillful and pleasant. Mikulich showed the life of a Russian woman at the end of the 19th century in various hypostles: a girl on a giving way, passionate about home arrangement, a young wife, an armhole, eager for love adventures and sexual joys, a wife who does not love her husband, a woman who wants to find peace in a family circle and a domestic quiet existence, a woman loving and devoted to one and only man
