The events of the adventure story of the Italian writer David Morosinotto take place in the USSR during the Great Patriotic War: his brother is looking for his sister, their father at the front, and the mother remained in the besieged Leningrad. The author tells this story fascinatingly and honestly, not embarrassed to pay attention to those moments of military everyday life, which are often not written in books for adults - about hunger and Stalinist repressions, about the loss of loved ones and the absence of truthful information, but also about selflessness, mutual assistance and faith in Victory. A wide panorama of military everyday life is taking place before the reader’s eyes: the blockade Leningrad and the fighting garrison of the fortress of the nuts, work on the collective farm next to Kazan, where Leningrad children were evacuated, and the work of prisoners in the construction of a hydroelectric power station. The unusual form of the book is a children"s diary, gives a sense of presence and allows you to understand what the heroes of the book felt at every moment in time, which was important to them, which caused joy and caused suffering. That is how, empathy, we read the diaries of real participants in the war. The Russian edition of the book is an experiment: fictional events of the story are equipped with commentary and excerpts from genuine diaries and memoirs of war witnesses connecting the adventures of heroes with the real circumstances of the Great Patriotic War. For a young reader, this is an opportunity to take the first step to get acquainted with historical sources.
