The novel Demons occupies a special place in the work of F. M. Dostoevsky. He is not only along with the “crime and punishment”, “idiot”, “teenager” and “brothers Karamazov” is included in the so -called “great Pentateuch” of the writer, but in this series they stand out especially. This novel, dedicated to the problems of the confrontation of darkness and light, evil and good, was conceived by Dostoevsky in 1870. After the murder of the terrorist group of Sergey Nechaev, one of the participants in his underground organization, Ivan Ivanov, intended to break with her. The writer perspicively felt that the phenomena of this kind are the result of a whole set of problems, centuries accumulated in the country. However, the “demons” of the work is not only about Nechaev and Nechaevschina, but also about the possibility of the human soul to overcome all the temptations and doubts, go through all the trials and find a saving path, following which you can win over the world"s triumphant - evil, lies and others vices. At the same time, “demons” is a large -scale literary canvas depicting in the original narrative form the life of a provincial city during fatal events. In this publication, the text of the novel is accompanied by extensive comments, as well as the introductory article by the famous domestic literary critic of the Doctor of Philological Sciences B. N. Tikhomirov “Rehearsal of the Russian Apocalypse”, which helps to better understand the artistic concept of the novel. The publication is accompanied by executed in the mid-1930s. Illustrations of a graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts of Sarra Shor (1897–1981) The future artist was born in a small county town of Volyn province three years before the beginning of the 20th century. It seemed that she was prepared for the usual fate of hundreds of thousands of Jewish girls living in the Russian outback. However, Sarra woke up a craving for drawing. At first, Sarra entered the Kiev Art College, where she first met the European avant-garde, and then moved to St. Petersburg. Over time, she joined the new artistic association-the “culture of the Culture”, the Jewish artists entering it sought to promote new art, combining it with national motives. In this line, the work of Sarah Shor also developed. She painted sketches for theatrical productions, and then was carried away by book graphics. Books with drawings by S. Shor were published by the leading publishers of Moscow and Leningrad. These publications were repeatedly demonstrated at international book art exhibitions, including abroad: in Cologne, Amsterdam, New York, Berlin and London. An example of such works by Shor are her illustrations for Dostoevsky"s “demons”. The novel “Demons” (1871–1872) is one of the most important in the creative heritage of F. M. Dostoevsky. The impetus for its creation was the first political murder in the history of the revolutionary movement in Russia, committed by a group of terrorist revolutionaries led by Sergei Nechaev. The depth of philosophical and religious issues, the acuteness of the formulation of social and moral issues led to the hot disputes that have been held around this work since its release. A complex genre nature, the essence of the author’s pathos of “demons” is traditionally determined in the terms “Roman-tragedy” and “novel-prelimination”. The publication is accompanied by extensive comments. The introductory article “Rehearsal of the Russian Apocalypse” helps to better understand the author’s art of the novel
