"He began to write" dead souls". The plot stretched to the predatory novel and, it seems, will be very ridiculous, ”wrote N.V. Gogol in a letter to A. S. Pushkin in his letter on October 7, 1835. The poet himself gave the writer the idea of this work, a similar story that happened in reality, he heard during his Chisinau exile. In Gogol’s brilliant transference, the plot of "dead souls" turned into a great work, in which, as in the mirror, all genuine episodes of Russian reality were reflected. Many of them are relevant to this day. The critic Vissarion Belinsky noted that the dead souls "are above all that was and is in Russian literature", and that this Gogol poem is a work that is as national as the highly artistic.
