Innocent Annensky is a wonderful Russian poet and translator, playwright, brilliant literary critic. For many years he taught ancient languages and literature, was the director of the gymnasium in Tsarskoye Selo near St. Petersburg, while almost no one knew about his poetic experiments. Annensky did not print his poems. The first book of his poems “Quiet Songs” (1904, under the pseudonym Nick. T-O) published a few years before his death. The main part of the poetic heritage of Annensky (including the “Cypress Casket”, a book that became the top of his work) saw the light only after the death of the author, “The Cyparis Castle” brought Annensky well -deserved glory, putting on a par with the great poets of the Silver Age.
This collection presents the main collection of lyric poems by Innocent Annensky, as well as his poetic translations of the works of Horace, Goethe, Baudelaire, Verlene, Rimba, Mallarm, etc
