The novel "Crime and Punishment" is a model of psychological and socio -philosophical prose. The protagonist is a student Rodion Raskolnikov plotting murder and robbery. His motives, on the one hand, are clear: he is poor and acutely needs money, on the other hand, not a thirst for enrichment drives him, but the idea of the chosenness and superiority of some people over others. Is it possible to internally justify the crime and what punishment awaits the one who decided to end through social and moral laws - these issues create the drama of the novel and keep the reader in tension to the final. Expressive illustrations for the novel were created by the artist Dementia Shmarinov, a master of transmitting the most difficult psychological characteristics of the heroes
