"Crime and Punishment" is one of the most complex and significant works of Russian literature containing the features of psychological, philosophical and criminal novels. Never before, Dostoevsky had so vividly portrayed the poverty and suffering of destitute, their heavy and joyless existence.
Describing the life of a ranger on the example of a former student of the law faculty of Rodion Raskolnikov, Dostoevsky reveals the tragedy of a person who has lost faith in people, and through a series of moral shocks and throwing leads the hero to repentance for his deed.
The novel was first printed in the journal Russian Bulletin in 1866 and had a huge impact not only on the Russian, but also the world literary process. Already in the 80s of the XIX century, the novel was translated into a dozen European languages and to this day remains a bestseller of classical literature
