This book is the author’s project of the wonderful artist Mikhail Bychkov, in the illustrations of which the episodes of the Pushkin poem and Pushkin Petersburg literally come to life. “I did not set myself the task of illustrating the“ Copper Horseman ”. I wanted to create a picturesque equivalent of the poem - complex, multi -level, like herself. ” The poem Copper Horseman, one of the deepest and most perfect works by A.S. Pushkin, written in Boldin in October 1833. It depicts a large -scale flood in St. Petersburg on November 7, 1824. Having called his work “St. Petersburg Tale”, Pushkin opened the theme of the big city in Russian literature. A tragic event that has broken the usual course of life turns into a real phantasmagoria, a regularity associated with a special fate of St. Petersburg in Russian history and culture. During the life of the poet, only the beginning of the “copper horseman” was published: “the highest censor” Nicholas I demanded to make changes to the poem, to which Pushkin did not agree to go.
