In the golden age of the reign of Catherine the Great, considerable things were performed. Prince Potemkin, the favorite of the empress, headed the Department of External Relations and developed violent activities to strengthen the southern borders of the Russian Empire. One of the strategic tasks was the accession of the Crimean Khanate in order to establish themselves to the Russians on the Black Sea. Back in 1765, Catherine issued a decree on the creation of a branched network of secret agents in the Northern Black Sea region and Crimea. In order to collect the information and prepare peace negotiations, the Russian embassy goes to Bakhchisaray, in which Potemkin includes a young woman, the widow of the officer Arzhanov, who died in the war, with a secret task to position Khan Shahin-Girea
