Readers did not know such a Yuri Karlovich Olesha (1899-1960) before the appearance of the "Book of Farewell. The former book of diaries "not a day without a line", published in 1964, introduced the public an optimistic person who easily creating a metaphor and not as asking difficult issues of the worldview order. He, of course, was unconditionally talented and not like anyone, but seemed relieved festive. The diaries read without bills showed a much more complex author. Records were taken to the first edition only from the end of 1954, after the death of Stalin, but Olesha began to keep the diary in the 1930s, a turning point in Russian history. Short, as if the pulsating records of Yuri Karlovich are read as an exciting narrative about a difficult life of a person who does not know how to look away and pretend not to understand what is happening around at times that cultivate colorlessness, obedience, adaptability. The writer"s literary diaries in the capacious three, five, fifteen lines allow you to feel the decades of the thirties, forty, fifties sometimes more acute and more precisely than lengthy historical research ”(Violetta Gudkov).
