The novel "Black Woman" (1834) is the main work of the writer, publicist, journalist and philologist Nikolai Ivanovich Grech (1787-1867), one of the outstanding phenomena of the Pushkin era. The grandiose in the plan, the novel covers three decades of the Russian life of the turn of the two great centuries and after the Eugene Onegin is worthy to be called the "encyclopedia of Russian life".
