Batu’s campaign on Rus" is one of the most tragic events of Russian history, and the novel “Batu” Vasily Jan (1875–1954) is the central book of the entire historical trilogy written by the author of the Mongol conquests. The novel is dedicated to the first campaign of the Mongols to Rus", which took place in 1237–1238, when the principality of North-East Rus" was subjected to total ruin: Ryazan, Murom, Vladimir-Suzdal.
