The collection is dedicated to the problems of the "Atamanism" and "Partisanism" in the Civil War in Russia 1918-1922. The designated phenomena stained an armed confrontation within a huge country. Methods of recruiting, motivation of the warring for external wars, methods of military operations put forward new organizational forms and new leaders. During the internecine war, amateur formations partly became material for regular military construction on the red or white side, in the national armies, and partially resisted this. Volunteers, rebels, partisans were the most reliable volunteer core of any armies and the threat of any regular military and state construction. In these formations, the lower -scale folk elite with its interests and ideas about the authorities was put forward and tempered. Many elements of the complex mosaic of the Ataman and partisan manifestations in the vastness of the collapsed Russian Empire were in the view of the authors of the collection.
