Dmitry Vasilievich became famous as the author of works that played an important role in the formation and development of critical realism. One of these works is the story "Anton-Goremyk", represented by readers in 1847. In the center of this story is the tragic fate of the peasant Anton. The story of an ordinary man, brought by a number of circumstances, on him independent and explained by the conditions of fortress captivity, to complete ruin and despair, became a convincing accusation against Dmitry Vasilyevich against the main social evil of that time - serfdom. The story about the fate of Anton-Lomezika not only caused compassion, pity for the oppressed peasantry, he woke up a feeling of indignation in people, shame for the fact that this is possible and still happens in Russia, sounded like a call to the struggle for the liberation of the people .... ..
