Anna Yakovlevna Mar (1887-1917) - writer, screenwriter and playwright of the Silver Age. Her most famous novel, "Woman on the Cross", was repeatedly reprinted in the 1990s, but the writer’s creative heritage is by no means exhausted: this book includes almost all the published works of Mar, including film dramas. She was one of the first to advocate the right of women to appeal in literature to such “forbidden” topics as sadism and masochism, "two of the most terrible forces of the human spirit." Where many would be pleased with their own literary successes, Mar, paving the way to others, continued to write about the specifics of female creativity, the position of writers and the attitude of society towards them
