The novel based on the material of the ancient Scandinavian sagas describes one extremely dramatic event that occurred in the newly adopted Christianity of Norway at the beginning of the XI century. During the visit by King Olov II Haraldsson, one of the large peasant farms in the east of the country, all the main characters of the book for thirteen holy nights during Yol, the holiday of the winter solstice, which became Christians with the holiday of Christmas, face the ghost of the god Odin. Already with one mysterious presence, the ghost of Odin causes both convinced Christians and the stubborn supporters of the old faith in doubt and temptation, but also gives them a sense of deeper internal self -realization. The novel picturesquely conveys the emotional experience of individuals in their struggle for truth and knowledge and shows the tragic situation of those who had a chance to live in this era of a heavy spiritual turning point.
