The dictionary represents the first attempt at lexicographical description of the vocabulary of the Ryazan dialect in the 16th-18th centuries. The dictionary includes both dialectal vocabulary of that time and the common Russian vocabulary that became dialectal in later periods of the development of the Russian language. The basis of the dictionary is the data from Ryazan literary monuments, private correspondence. The main sources are handwritten books and manuscripts representing a multi-genre business and private-business writing. Published Ryazan monuments of business writing were also used.
The dictionary is intended for philologists, historians, ethnographers, and all those interested in the country's past.
