In Japan and beyond, the term "hikikomori" refers to those who refuse to live outside of their room, preferring the virtual world to the real one. Luca, a 16-year-old living in Italy, becomes disillusioned with people and stops attending school and leaving the house. His parents and friends are unable to reach him. Only Lady Sakura, a young Japanese girl whom Luca meets on an anime forum, is able to do so.
