Seyyed Mohammad Hossein Tabrizi (1906-1988), known by the pseudonym Shahriar, is one of the greatest poets of 20th-century Iran. His work is imbued with humanism and calls to uphold fidelity to eternal moral values. Many of Shahriar's works were a response to global events. One such poem is "Heroes of the City of Stalin," first published in 1946. It depicts all stages of World War II and its culmination - the defeat of fascist troops at Stalingrad. The poem is rich in symbolism typical of Persian classical poets, rooted in ancient Iranian myths. It is being published in Russian for the first time.
