"Check on the roads", "twenty days without war", "my friend Ivan Lapshin", "Khrustalev, Machine!" - These films, mysterious and powerful, add up to the phenomenon of Alexey German. His cinema is one of the most significant and least studied phenomena in the global art of the last half a century. Of the many hours of conversations with the director Anton Dolin learned if not all, then the most important thing about the origin of the master, his parents, military childhood, thawing, and weary in the labyrinths of Soviet cinematography. He found out how a new movie language was born, dealt with those who are actually laptic and Khrustalev and what to expect from the fifth full-length picture of Herman, work on which is more than ten years. The book also included an essay of Anton Valley - a kind of guide to the films of Herman.
