The publication is prepared for the exhibition 'Henryk Semiradsky. Following the example of the gods'. Henryk Hippolyte Semiradsky (1843-1902) is a central figure in the late academic art, the author of complex multi-figure canvases that invariably attracted the attention of connoisseurs and the general public. An important part of his creative legacy consists of monumental compositions, including those for the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Russian Historical Museum. The album presents Semiradsky's paintings and graphic works, as well as rich and illustrative material from Russian and foreign museum and private collections. The publication includes articles by leading Russian specialists on Semiradsky's work, including on his unique collaboration with Italian photographer Michele Mang, technological research on the master's works, reflections on Semiradsky's legacy and the artists of his circle in contemporary art, as well as a chronicle of the artist's life supplemented with recently discovered information. For the first time in Russian, Semiradsky's letters to his family from the collection of the Pontifical Institute of Church Studies in Rome are published. The publication is of interest to both specialists and art enthusiasts.
