The main characters of the stories "Hello to You, Mitya Kukin!" and "Olyosha's Nail" are boys who, in their childhood, experienced the misfortune that war is so generous with - the loss of their loved ones. But even in difficult times, the boys meet the surrounding big world with open hearts, wide-eyed, finding joy in the simplest things, and carefully preserving kindness, love, and hope in their souls. Mitya Kukin, who ends up in a boarding school, believes that he will surely be lucky and find his missing mother and sisters, while he carefully keeps a letter from a completely unknown lieutenant from the front - after all, it is much easier to believe when you receive letters. And little Olyosha, left without a father, is ready to take care of his mother himself - he can even build a house, if only he could gather more nails... Light and serious, simple yet deep stories by Lev Kuzmin will warm and enlighten young readers, while the engaging plots with a touch of adventure will keep them entertained. The illustrations for the stories were done by Nikolai Ustinov - an outstanding artist of children's books, a master of landscape illustration.
