'Heart of Darkness' is a novella by Polish-English writer Joseph Conrad, recognized as a master of adventure and maritime fiction. It was first published in its entirety in 1902.
At the time 'Heart of Darkness' was written, many authors idealized English colonialism. However, Conrad had ambivalent feelings towards this phenomenon. Certainly, he respected English order, but he also sympathized with the local populations of the colonies. These contradictions are reflected in 'Heart of Darkness', which was written under the impression of a journey to the Free State of Congo.
The work has been adapted for the A2 English proficiency level. For the reader's convenience, the text is accompanied by comments and a glossary.
