The book is the first scientific biography of the outstanding English physicist Harold Jeffries in world literature. His work in the first half of the 20th century largely determined the face of classical seismology. G. Jeffries was the first to build a seismic model of the Earth. He paid great attention to the problems at the intersection of geophysics and astronomy. He developed the theory of tides, the theory of lunar motion, and built the first models of the internal structure of planets. It is impossible not to mention his contribution to applied mathematics, hydrodynamics, and especially mathematical statistics. In writing the scientific biography of G. Jeffries, previously unpublished archival materials were used, some of which were provided by his widow, Lady Jeffries.
