The new novel by Alexander Kupriyanov, "The Hamburg Sympathizer," is written in the style of movism - a "literary kaleidoscope." "How did you become a writer?" - the author's granddaughter asks at the beginning of the narrative. This novel is an attempt to answer how writers are made... Real memories of interesting people whom the author encountered in life (Leonid Shkolnik, Viktor Astafyev, Svetlana Alliluyeva, Valery Simenov, Valery Zalotukha, Dmitry Bakin, Gennady Bocharov, Yuri Lepsky) are interspersed with scenes of a difficult, yet colorful and beautiful childhood spent on the Lower Amur. The lyrical hero Shurka spends his whole life searching for true love - just like each of us. As in other books by A. Kupriyanov, truth is generously mixed with the author's imagination. The reader will have to figure out what in the novel was invented by the author and what actually happened.
