The demand for Alexander Mikhaylovich Dodonov's 'Guide to Proper Voice Placement' is evidenced by the fact that during his lifetime the manual went through six editions from 1891 to 1912. Dodonov's manual, a student of Francesco Lamperti and Manuel Garcia, contains theoretical (study of the vocal apparatus, anatomical and physiological information about the organs and muscles involved in sound production) and practical parts (exercises designed to make the voice of a beginner singer even, free, and prepare them for stage practice). The exercises in the practical part are structured on a gradual technical complexity. This edition will be of interest to students in vocal departments of music educational institutions, educators, and theorists of opera theater. 2nd edition, corrected.
