Ivan Pavlovich Horikov, the author of the only large new Novogreic-Russian dictionary and a unique multi-volume textbook Novogreic language for universities, dedicated his whole life to popularizing Greek. For its textbooks, many years have been engaged in students of the USSR universities, and later students of secular and spiritual educational institutions of Russia, Ukraine, Georgia.
The dignity of the textbook is primarily in its fullness and circumstance, in a very thoughtful system of exercises, thematic texts and dialogues.
In no way detracting the advantages of other textbooks in Russia simultaneously with the textbook I. Chorikova (for example, the textbook of M.L. Ritech), we dare to argue that such a methodical and detailed presentation of the foundations of the modern Greek language, development The new principles of fixing the material passed precisely the textbook I.P. Chorikova invaluable for all those who seek to seriously learn Greek. Almost all his life I. P. Horikov worked on the selection of materials to the lessons, united each word, the phrase, until the end of his life worked on the dictionary vocabulary. Here I want to bring one episode from his life. When I. P. Horikov worked on his big dictionary, and these were the years of prohibiting any topics related to religion, the consultant expert"s Big Soviet Encyclopedia by the Publishing House demanded to remove almost all the Orthodox Terminology of the Material Allegedly outdated and absolutely unnecessary. And Horikov set Ultimatum publishing house: either the entire collected material, let with small abbreviations, but remains in the book, or he gives the job and removes his name from the book as the author. As a result, the dictionary was released in the form in which I. P. Horikov prepared it.
In 2003, after a severe illness, I. P. Horikov left his life. The preparation of the Textbook of the Greek Language to the second edition was the matter of recent years of his life.
The exit to the light of the second, supplemented and corrected edition of the new-fashioned language textbook for universities is our tribute to the truly Mobilical work of Ivan Pavlovich Chorikova.
