In the book for the first time in domestic historiography, the art of the era of the First World War in a wide cultural and historical context was considered. After analyzing the main styles and directions in pre-war art, including the experts of the avant-garde, first of all, its practices such as fusism, cubism, futurism and expressionism, the author for the first time in such a full volume of European art of wartime. Creation of front-line artists and official military artists of warring countries: England, France, Italy, Germany and Austria - British K.R. Nevinson, P.O. Lewisa, P. Nash, S. Spencer, French F. Loe, P. Picasso, M. Deni, F. Wallotone, A. Mare, Germans M. Bekman, O. Dix, L. Kirchner, Austrians E. Shile and A . Egger Linz and many others. The book includes a large material on the centers of intellectual emigration in the United States and Switzerland, it affects the problems of such a countercultural movement as Dadaism. In this context, the creativity of M. Dushana, F. Picabia, Maine Reya, Tzar, M. Ernst, Arpa, and others. Special attention was paid to the Berlin group of Dadaists. In conclusion, the author on the basis of the analysis of creativity of leading masters gives the characteristics of styles and directions of post-war art. The book contains a large number of illustrations and brief biographies of war participants
