Artist-landscapeist, teacher Arkhip Ivanovich Kindji (1842-1910) mastered painting almost independently, but once, understanding how his hand was imperfect, went on foot to Feodosiya - to learn mastery from the Great Ayvazovsky. Entered the St. Petersburg Academy without passing exams on general disciplines-in order to exception. He opened up new features of the landscape, "raised reality" and showing the beauty of the world. His paintings "Ukrainian night" and "Moonlight Night on the Dnieper" shocked viewers - the paints on the canvas were incredibly intense. And the picture "on the island of Valaam" Dostoevsky called the National Landscape. Experiments with color and light Kindji did not leave until the end of the life - and in the memory of the people he remained a "artist of light". He founded the Society of Artists, which later received his name, and bequeathed him his considerable inheritance - for the benefit of Russian art
