The final book of the multi-volume edition about the life of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich (1857-1905) includes documentary materials covering the period from January 1, 1900, to February 4, 1905, the day when the Grand Duke was killed in the Kremlin by a terrorist bomb. The Moscow Governor-General, who was called the "bastion of autocracy," interfered too much with the revolutionaries who aimed at the complete destruction of the country's economic, social, and political structure. He fell as a warrior in the year of the first Russian revolution, remaining loyal to his oath of allegiance to the Tsar and the Fatherland until the end. Thanks to letters and memoirs of contemporaries, many of which are being published for the first time, we are presented with the entire life of this outstanding representative of the Romanov dynasty in the finest detail. We have only supplemented the narrative with historical realities in the context of the turbulent political events in Russia in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
