Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich, also known as Sandro (1866-1933), uncle and peer of Tsar Nicholas II, was his friend and brother-in-law, married to Grand Duchess Xenia, father of six sons and daughter Irina, who married Felix Yusupov. Charming aristocrat and cheerful, wise man, sailor, admiral, and creator of the Russian military aviation, he knew everyone and understood everything, and in his way of thinking, he was more modern than many of us. This volume includes both books of the memoirs of the Grand Duke. The first book is printed here for the first time with the restoration of all the numerous notes of political and intimate nature, which were made by Russian emigrants in Paris in 1933. The second book, telling about the years of emigration, was translated specifically for this edition.
