The book is devoted to the study of fiction in the English novel of the late XIX-XX centuries. For the first time in domestic literature, fantastic in English prose is shown in a wide historical and cultural context and as a set of aesthetic phenomena created in the robust of the National Art Tradition. The basis of the book is the literary portraits of seventeen English prose. Some of them - W. Morris, B. Stocker, J. R.R. Tolkin - familiar to the domestic reader, and in this case, knowledge of them will be expanded and complemented, others - Lord Danceini, M. Norton, M. Frein - are familiar much less, the names of Third - E. Houpa, H.Kh. Hodjson - are introduced into scientific use for the first time.
