In the coronary therapy department of one of the leading medical centers in Denmark, a nurse fills a syringe and enters the room of an elderly patient. Six days earlier, a newspaper delivery person in the heart of Copenhagen makes a horrifying discovery: the naked body of a dead woman lying in a fountain. The victim's arms and thighs are covered in intricate symmetrical cuts. The apparent cause of death was exsanguination.
While investigator Jeppe Kørner fruitlessly searches the streets of Copenhagen for the killer, his partner Anette Werner, who is on maternity leave, decides to conduct her own independent investigation. She has no idea of the monstrous dangers she will face in order to find the criminal.
