"The Glass Curtain" is the final part of the novel "Birch Grove," the main character of which is Valentina Lebedeva, a provincial masseuse with a talent for healing, who becomes the most popular TV presenter in the country. The action takes place in 1996, Russia is boiling on the eve of the presidential elections, and the population is facing black political technologies for the first time. Due to fraudulent advertising of water, Valentina is ready to leave television. However, the producer Ada Rudolf sends her to "cool off" on representative trips to Sweden and Denmark, which helps Valentina see herself and her country with new eyes. At a reception with the Danish Queen Margrethe II, Valentina meets a healer from Bolivia, who performs a purification ritual on her. Returning home, Valentina becomes a victim of dirty publications regarding her relationship with Deputy Goryaev, who is close to Yeltsin. But a new chapter in connection with the presidential elections opens not only for all of Russia but also for Valentina's family: she falls in love, as does her adopted daughter Vika...
