Real girls want to read about real life, which includes sadness, pain, loneliness, and jealousy. Real girls experience real feelings. They fall, get bruises and bumps, and then get up again, becoming older and wiser. Girls are no longer fairy-tale characters, but people made of flesh and blood. Annet Schaap, a well-known Dutch artist and writer, author of the fairy tale "Lampie," has transformed seven classic fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault into amazing stories about seven girls. These fairy tales, adapted in a modern way, are imbued with deep psychological insight, and between the lines, one can find more hidden meanings than initially apparent.
In 2021, the book received the prestigious literary award of the Netherlands, the "Bronze Griffel."
