The heroine of the novel, the pretty provincial Lorelei Lee, commits the murder of her patron in her youth, but, using charms, is acquitted by the judge and evokes sympathy from the jury. Now she is climbing the social ladder, paving her way into the glamorous high society life of the Jazz Age. Naive and foolish, she is convinced that Vienna is in France, Australia is in England, that all men in Paris are apparently named Ludovik, and even numbered at that. However, none of this prevents her from winning the favor of the wealthy Henry Spoffard, whom she is about to marry.
