The leadership describes the main provisions of modern medical genetics and the possibility of their use in clinical practice. The first part gives a description of the material foundations of heredity. It is shown how the ideas about genes, their organization and work, methods of packaging of genetic material in cells, its hereditary transmission among generations changed. Certain chapters are devoted to the types of inheritance of signs, the characterization of mutations, the genetic foundations of development, the description of the genetic structure and dynamics of populations, epigenetic modifications, the results of the international project "human genome" and their significance for the development of molecular medicine. The second part of the book is entirely devoted to the problems and methods of medical genetics. A detailed description of congenital malformations, chromosomal and monogenic diseases classified by inheritance are given. The role of genetic components in the etiology of multifactorial diseases, the possibility of identifying and clinical interpretation of the genetic risk factors that predispose to their development is discussed. The basics of pharmacogenetics and the genetic theory of carcinogenesis are presented. A separate chapter is devoted to the issues of diagnosis and prevention, as well as the treatment of hereditary and innate diseases. The book is equipped with a dictionary of genetic terms.
